Rachel Caldcleugh

Domestic Abuse Practice Advisor (DAPA), NSPCC Helpline

Rachel is a Domestic Abuse Practice Advisor (DAPA) at the NSPCC Helpline. She currently supports staff within the NSPCC in recognising and responding to signs of domestic abuse, and also supports a small case load of their most vulnerable high risk victims.

Prior to working for the NSPCC she worked in numerous domestic abuse/safeguarding type settings, where she supported victim’s and children around the impact of domestic abuse.

She has not only worked supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse but has also spent time as a male victim’s worker, which presented its own unique challenges and rewards.

Her passion for domestic abuse started many years ago when she was a police officer on “the beat” and saw the impact of domestic abuse upon families first hand.  She decided from that point that not enough was done to support the most vulnerable victims and she wanted to try and change that.

In her current role at the NSPCC Helpline she works as part of a small team who support the helpline and wider NSPCC staff.  They develop and deliver training, create policies and guidance and support staff on a one to one basis to ensure staff approach domestic abuse in a trauma informed manner.

Domestic abuse incidents occur every approximately 40 seconds within the UK and given the scale and severity these incidents have upon children and families, Rachel feels it is important that they get it right every time.
