Professor Angela Gallop has been a practicing forensic scientist for over 50 years. She is best known for setting up and running full service forensic laboratories – including what is now the UK’s largest independent forensic services provider, and for establishing and personally overseeing the forensic teams who provided the critical evidence in many of the UK’s most complex and intractable cold cases such as Damilola Taylor, Rachel Nickell, Coastal Path, and Stephen Lawrence murders. More recently Angela has been involved in providing security and justice services on behalf of the UK Government to fragile and conflict affected countries overseas. In 2015, she was awarded a CBE for services to forensic science.
Currently Angela divides her time between continuing to oversee the forensic investigation of complex cases, advising and assisting the Centre for Forensic Science at the University of Strathclyde and writing books and contributing to films and TV programmes on forensic science. She is also engaged in broader initiatives, for instance she recently co-chaired the Westminster Commission on Forensic Science, under the auspices of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Miscarriages of Justice, which reported in June this year.
