The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that runs from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, until Human Rights Day on 10 December.
This campaign began in 1991 by activists at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute. It is used as an organising strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
Following on from the NFWI-Wales stakeholder event attended by Links Group trustee Dave Martin last week, throughout the 16 days campaign, The Links Group team will be delivering face-to-face and online training, attending events and supporting colleagues working in this field. Our colleagues at Hestia’s UK Says No More have outlined “16 Ways to be an Activist During 16 Days of Activism” and you can find out more here.
UK Says No More connects members of the public and organisations nationwide to actively take a stand against domestic abuse and sexual violence under one powerful, visual symbol. Their campaign provides open-source tools and resources for individuals and organisations to take action and get involved in making a difference.
UK Says No More describes how, together, we can challenge the myths and misconceptions around these issues, share resources and information, and ultimately work together to make real positive change by Believing, Responding and Referring.
On Friday, November 29th, six of the team will be in Chester for our multi-agency training day on recognising non-accidental injury and the link between domestic abuse, child abuse, and animal abuse. On the same day, Emily Mills, RVN, Vet Projects Manager Dogs Trust and Links Group speaker, will be speaking at Vetpol UK’s Munch&Learn 2024 event for Suitably Qualified Persons.
On Friday, 6th December, Refuge4Pets CEO and the Links Group’s Dr Mary Wakeham and Cats Protection Lifeline’s Amy Hyde will be running a free webinar on Animal Abuse as a Strategy of Coercive Control. Please find out more about these courses on our training page here.
