International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and International White Ribbon Day in Cardiff
The Links Group was delighted to be represented at this important cross-party stakeholder event to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and International White Ribbon Day. Held at the Senedd, Cardiff, on Monday, November 18th, trustee David Martin signed the ‘Not in My Name’ pledge board on behalf of The Links Group before joining the presentations.
This hybrid event at the Senedd, sponsored by Joyce Watson MS, was well attended by many stakeholders and agencies. Presentations reflected on the progress made and the ongoing challenges in eradicating violence against women and girls. Speakers included Joyce with Jill Rundle, Chair of NFWI-Wales; Jeryl Stone, NFWI Chair; Samsunear Ali, Chief Executive Officer, Bawso; Tanya Bull, Regional Officer and Head of Wales, Unison Cymru Wales, and Jane Hutt MS, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice.
Later that evening, there was a candlelight vigil to show solidarity with survivors of violence against women and girls worldwide. Those attending heard from many speakers, including survivors: Jane Hutt MS, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice; Mike Taggart, White Ribbon Ambassador and Trustee of White Ribbon UK; and Members of the Senedd from each political party.
The vigil closed with a performance by the Llamau Choir. Llamau is a leading homelessness charity in Wales whose mission is to eradicate homelessness for young people and vulnerable women.
A huge thank you to the National Federation of Women’s Institutes-Wales for inviting us, following their representative joining us to learn more about the link between abuse of animals and abuse of people at our Links multi-agency training day held at Dogs Trust, Cardiff, in April 2024.
