I am both a practising  veterinary surgeon and independent social worker.  I studied law, then later social work,  before qualifying as a veterinary surgeon. I am now bringing together these disciplines in my work with both people and animals.
I work as an out of hours veterinary surgeon. I also continue to act as an expert witness social worker, undertaking assessments and providing professional evidence on complex safeguarding matters in children and families cases. I have a particular interest in the link between animal abuse and harm to humans. I am passionate about improving collaboration between veterinary, social care and safeguarding professionals, and ensuring thatand ensuring that concerns relating to animals are recognised as an important part of understanding risk and vulnerability within families.

'Even though I ask the question on the DASH form regarding animal abuse, I feel more confident how to respond’.

‘Whilst the sharing of real scenarios from survivors' experiences was confronting and difficult to hear, it really cemented the knowledge and research you were providing’.
