Last month, we shared Housing Rights’ highlights video of the Homelessness and domestic abuse: Legislative theatre event which was held in Belfast in March.

The Links Group were there, accompanied by Lauren SuitorCats Protection Lifeline Coordinator.

You can read more detail about it here, and it really was something special.  Ten female survivors of domestic abuse took centre stage together to act out their lived experiences of trying to leave an abusive relationship and showing the barriers they faced, which ensured that survivors’ voices were clearly heard in a most dramatic way discussing domestic abuse and associated homelessness.

Together, the survivors, the delegates and the representatives from Housing Rights, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, the Police Service of Northern IrelandFrancis Hanna & Co. solicitors, the Department of Communities, the Department of Justice, the Public Health Agency and the Executive Office came together to create proposals for policy development in this area.

We’re delighted to say that Housing Rights have just released the update report from each of the members of the Policy Team on the steps they have taken so far to work towards the commitments made at the event.

As a final stage of the process, the Policy Team members and actors will be meeting again in September for a further update and discussion on each of the commitments and the work to date. You can find out more on the Housing Right’s news page here, where you can also download the initial policy report and the 8-week update report.
