We’re signed up for the White Ribbon UK newsletter, and this month’s tells us that we’re officially in White Ribbon month! November is a busy month for those working to end violence against women and girls. White Ribbon Day, on 25th November 2024, also the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, is an annual event where men can show their year-long commitment to preventing violence against women and girls.
White Ribbon UK describes how the White Ribbon is the globally recognised symbol to end men’s violence against women and girls. Since the inception of the White Ribbon movement 35 years ago in Canada, the White Ribbon has become an important symbol in the fight to end gender-based violence.
They work by addressing the root causes of men’s violence against women: harmful attitudes, behaviours and systems around rigid gender norms and harmful expressions of masculinity that perpetuate gender inequality and gender-based violence.
Allyship is a central message of the White Ribbon; it represents men taking responsibility to challenge this issue and being allies every day to stop violence against women and girls before it starts.

The Links Group also believe that we are stronger when we work together, in collaboration and partnership. We are delighted to have been invited by the National Federation of Women’s Institutes-Wales to an event on 18th November in the Senedd in Cardiff to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and International White Ribbon Day. Mike Taggart of North Wales Police is a White Ribbon Ambassador, a Trustee of White Ribbon UK, and a Domestic Abuse Matters trainer for SafeLives. Mike will be one of the speakers, and we look forward to hearing from him again and the other presentations on the day.
November is shaping up to be a busy month for all of us at The Links Group.
